Writing as Necessity
I'm currently pursuing a Master of Fine Arts degree in screenwriting from Chapman University. I hope to analyze and communicate my experiences through creative narrative; I believe the written word is the most effective storytelling medium, the most powerful way to say what I want to say. I'm inspired by other cultures, by challenging philosophical ideas and the struggles of my friends and family. these stories defined my life and can have a great impact on others.
I want to write stories about the struggles I’ve had with doubt, about sacrificing so much for my church and getting very little back. I want to write about Mormon polygamists in the Utah desert of 1856, about missionaries in Estonia struggling with a new culture. But my heritage isn’t only a Mormon one; I want to write about punk music and pure cinema, about bad break-ups and making lots of money, about loss and redemption.
I hope you enjoy my writing samples and consider the ideas and questions posed therein.
